________________________________________________________________________________ Our client is currently seeking a GIS Analyst to be responsible for managing and maintaining spatial data, metadata for spatial data, maintenance of vendor applications that contain or serve spatial data, and the schedules and processes that enable achieving the goals of this position.
Responsibilities: · The position provides advanced-level spatial data content management functions including enterprise geodatabase management (ArcGIS Server-SDE databases), file-based vendor data applications maintenance, metadata maintenance and spatial layer administration of both SDE and file based layers, complete with symbology and layer definition for users. · This person may perform other duties as assigned related to spatial data use and management. · The primary responsibilities of this position are to enact, manage and coordinate all processes related to full-scale management of all enterprise level spatial data. · Ongoing updates of vendor GIS application data feeds whether they are relational database processes, or file share updates · Manage enterprise spatial metadata. Conduct user-training sessions related to meta-data best practices · Creation of derivative spatial data, views, and services from data in relational models, files, and other systems in order to serve GIS application interfaces using ESRI GIS Toolbox, Model Builder, or other spatial data manipulation tools such as FME, python scripts, or SQL scripting. · Working with GIS users in the best practice methods for managing business-area GIS data as part of team consulting in providing GIS solutions to users. · Shepherding the established GIS SDE layer creation approval process for new layers to be added to the Geodatabase (SDE) · Maintaining a solid working relationship with the SDE System Administrator in order to understand and assist in supporting three globally distributed synchronized SDE instances, providing updates, metadata, and assistance in reconciliations as needed · Troubleshooting the spatial data environments and planning for change: Collaboration with other teams - including the other groups within the Global Data Management organization- SDE DBA, local GIS SDE administrators in London and Southeast Asia or other locations, Oracle DBA's, GIS team leads and desktop support during any problems or anticipated changes to the ESRI data environments or software to make for low impact and smooth transition for GIS users.
Requirements: · 5+ years GIS experience · Strong skills in administering SDE layers housed in an ESRI ArcGIS Server SDE for Oracle or SQL-Server environment · Strong skills in administering data in all types of ESRI geodatabases and file formats consumed by GIS applications, including open-standards GIS · Strong abilities in GIS-analytics used in geoprocessing, integration, and producing derived data sets, views, and published services · Fluency in scripting languages and tools such as: SQL, Python, FME, ArcGIS Model Builder, and other spatial data processing tools and techniques · Having an understanding of SOA and REST-ful technologies and how to produce ArcGIS data services, manage caching, and provide additional support on the data side for data or service consumers such as web-GIS applications and desktop tools that use spatial data · Understanding of RSS and other feed services and conceptually how to integrate them into GIS applications · A working knowledge of Oracle SQL, MSAccess, ESRI geodatabases and file structures, and other standard spatial formats consumed by ESRI GIS. Having a working knowledge of SQL-Server is also a plus · Applicant must have a working knowledge of both MS-Windows and UNIX/LINUX operating systems on the server side and be able to read/interpret data management scripts in order to understand their intended function and troubleshoot problems that may arise during data management processes · Being able to speak the necessary descriptive terms related to the above, while troubleshooting the GIS data environment is critical · Demonstration of excellent communication and interpersonal skills · Having strong initiative · Recognition of the need to learn continuously and not become stuck in outdated technology or processes · Being able to work independently to manage the work, yet discern when asking for guidance is warranted · Solid planning and organization skills · The ability to respond to change and manage multiple tasks unrelated to one another simultaneously (multi-tasking vs. single-threaded approach) · The ability to utilize analogies and think in the abstract to conceptualize a solution · The ability to execute complex assignments with a high degrees of initiative, quality, professionalism, and timeliness · Taking responsibility for outcomes; taking intelligent risk, then learning from bad outcomes ways to improve future outcomes · Having solid problem solving skills, including troubleshooting, analysis, interpretation of complexities, creativity, and taking the holistic view into consideration when designing and delivering technology solutions · Being results driven · Having a sense of urgency to complete assignments · Understanding acceptable quality vs perfectionism in deliverables to our internal customers by iterative interaction with the business stakeholders · Being able to continuously re-define what constitutes a successful outcome, in order to improve business performance · Assume informal leadership roles as needed during the performance of job roles · Business-partner consulting capabilities · An understanding of the business environment, and focus on balancing IT processes with the business needs is critical to the success of the position · The candidate must possess excellent communication and collaboration skills, as these are critical.
